[Richard] Danielpour addressed the audience from the stage to explain the genesis of his trio, A Child’s Reliquary, which he composed last year to mark the death of a colleague’s 18-month-old son. “I know of nothing more tragic or heartbreaking than the death of a child,” he said, and yet the music inspired by the occasion was much more than just elegiac.
