bland (though wanting to appear grandiose or having pretensions of grandeur) adj.: blandiose

Listed in adjectives

The trouble with the American entertainment industry is there just aren’t enough out-of-the-closet and in-your-face Jews. We know they’re there, their names (Coen, Spielberg, Spelling, et al.) are in the credits as producers and directors and writers. Some actors have hidden behind blandiose names so as to be ethnically indistinguishable (and sexually unclear in the case of Jamie Lee Curtis, [daughter of] Tony Curtis, [born] Schwartz). (Penny Starr, “Who’s a Jew on American TV Imports,” Jerusalem Post, 12/6/1996.)
